The FARM Life

Aug 5, 2022 | Teak Place Estate

Greetings Teak Place Estate Family and Friends,

With only 5 months left of 2022, we cannot believe how fast this year has gone by. Spring is almost upon us, and our landscaping teams are gearing up for a big planting season to come. The Developer has established an incredible indigenous nursery over many years, that now services the Estate. Each tree and plant is grown on site from either a seed or cutting. Teak Place prides itself on the fact that each year 1000s of trees and other plants are planted around the Estate, either replacing any that may have not made it through the cold frosty winter or areas that require some screening, life and greenery.

Residents also get exclusive access to our nursery, should they wish to purchase any flora for their own properties. Further to this, the Estate landscape teams welcome input from residents with regard to the identification and suggestions on where they feel there is an area within the Estate that needs trees or plants.

Here are some comparisons that demonstrate how planting can transform a location:

Keeping with the outdoors, we often get questions as to why certain livestock are seen in demarcated camps. This is because Jodev farms uses regenerative agriculture techniques in their day to day farming practices.
Regenerative agriculture is a process of farming which aims to emulate nature as far as possible.  The ultimate goal is to create a closed system of agriculture which works off little to no inputs with the most crucial objective being the preservation of the soil.

Jodev Farms are creating their own natural system of agriculture by utilizing livestock to graze over natural and planted pastures. All of the planting happens with their no-till planter which protects the soil under a blanket of greenery. Animals are then grazed in small temporary camps, with the aim of moving them daily onto a new un-grazed pasture. This principle is designed to copy the great migratory herds of the world which are constantly on the move and only return to graze the same piece of land once a year. In turn their hoof action breaks down dead plant matter into a mulch as their dung and urine fertilizes the soil, feeding the microbes and creating a complete, healthy and harmonious system.

On to other exciting news. A previously undiscovered gem within the Estate has recently been exposed and cleared for all to enjoy. This very special spot can be found just downstream of the pulley-dam picnic site. It is definitely the most tranquil spot on the Estate where the runoff of from the dam flows down a drop in ground level creating a perfect waterfall. A platform just below this waterfall has been cleared, creating a beautiful spot for residents to enjoy the serenity and calming sound of running water.
A reminder to get your tickets, if you have not already for the Rhino Run. Teak Place Estate will be opening their trails for this event and providing a water point for runners who will get a very rare chance to experience the beauty that the Estate has to offer.
