2023 in a Nutshell

Nov 13, 2023 | Teak Place Estate

First of all, our apologies. You may have noticed that updates on the goings on at Teak Place Estate have been less frequent lately, but this is by no means an indication of what’s been happening at Teak Place Estate. In fact, the complete opposite. 2023 has been an exciting and exceptionally busy year for us all and we cannot believe that it is already November.

Construction in Mountain View commenced in November 2022 with the goal of building five exciting new homes. This was a mammoth task for the Teak Construction teams, and we are pleased to report that they did not disappoint. By June 2023, roofs were up and finishing touches were underway. In July/August 2023 homeowners of Stand 51 and 54 moved into their dream homes and started their new lives as Teak Place residents. Stand 52 and 56 owners soon followed a few months later. We would like to take this opportunity to welcome our newest Mountain View residents. We trust you will have many happy years on the Estate, enjoying the farm style living and all the joys that come with this lifestyle. We are sure loadshedding is a distant memory for you all by now.

We would also like to welcome our new homeowners to Stand 50 in The Lakes and Stand 26 in Wagon Ridge. We love seeing our special community grow!

There is more good news. We still have one beautiful 3-bedroom home that is available in Mountain View, just waiting for its new owners. This home, built in the iconic Teak Place style, boasts a lavish outdoor living area with unparalleled views of the mountains and spectacular Teak scenery. For any enquiries, please contact Justin or Nicola. Contact details are at the end of this blog.

Teak Place hosted the Conquer the Trails series trail run in the beginning of this year which proved to be a tough day out for those braving the 20km route that took them up many of Teak’s infamous climbs. We love showcasing and sharing our backyard with likeminded people and have some great trail runs lined up for 2024. Keep a look out on our social media accounts for the dates and details.

Our Estate wildlife has blossomed and bloomed over this past year. In February, our resident warthog family were seen near the reservoirs showing off their new young. The kudu are often seen frequenting the thick bush opposite Teak Village and the impala herd has increased in size with some new arrivals. Residents often share photos of their wildlife viewings, a reminder of how lucky we are to share this property with such a diverse array of fauna and flora.

Baby Danny Mitchell graced us with his presence in July. Congratulations to Devon and family on the arrival of sweet Danny. Devon is the mastermind behind Jodev Farms, as well as keeping all in check with the teams for Teak Construction. I have no doubt that Danny will be following in his Dad’s footsteps, swoping out his baby outfits for two-toned shirts and vellies.

One of the realities we face during the dry windy months is veld fires. In September we had a close call with a fire that swept across our eastern boundary. Our onsite teams and firefighting equipment was put to the test and with the help of many neighbours and the incredible greater community, they managed to keep the fire at bay and away from the property. Although we at Teak Place Estate are creating a community of likeminded individuals, all enjoying the finest in farm-style living, its instances like these that make us remember our community reaches far beyond our fence line and we all share a love and passion for the grater Cradle of Humankind. An area protected for its heritage and beauty, that we all feel so privileged to call home.

A very exciting addition to the Estate and Farm is the fantastic new Jodev Farmstall which opened its doors at the end of September. Kelly Mitchell, our resident Chef, alongside Farmer Devon designed and bought this space to life. A tranquil, country style space to be so proud of. Not only showcasing the finest and freshest produce straight from the farm, but also offering a very convenient source of staples and groceries for residents and neighbours, saving a trip to town.

One can find the most delicious artisanal coffee, freshly baked goods, biltong, takeaway meals, frozen meals, free range Karoo lamb, grass-fed, organic, free range, regeneratively farmed, no GMO, no hormone beef & pork, fresh vegetables, homemade preservatives and sauces, cordials, herbs and spices, seeds, and plants. What more could you ask for, the list goes on. Sensory gardens around the stall have also been planted, providing a unique experience for children and adults alike. “Pick-a -veg” is still available and there are many more exciting plans in the pipeline. Be sure to keep up to date with it all by following Jodev Farms on Instagram.

The farmstall is pet friendly, making it the perfect spot for a day out with the whole family. Secure parking is available and more information on the Estate can be found at the stall.
